The CREATE Teacher Residency website was a collaborative effort between Matthew and three other developers as part of 48in48. 48in48 is a nonprofit hackathon where 48 teams build 48 websites for 48 nonprofit organizations over the course of 48 hours. 48in48 was provided a great experience of building a fully functional web page over a short amount of time.

While this CREATE webpage was created with Wordpress, it still provided a valuable learning opportunity for Matthew. Matthew learned how integral time management and teamwork is when developing a product that has a hard deadline which is quickly approaching. Efficient use of planning and work allocation allowed the team to succeed in making a polished website for CREATE.

This project was particularly important to Matthew because it aligned with his desire to give back to the community with his skillset. This hackathon gave Matthew the chance to do good for a company who is promoting good in the community. 48in48 allowed Matthew to connect with other like-minded developers who were interested in being social entrepreneurs as using their skills for good.

Plunder was a group effort to develop an online marketplace that placed a high emphasis on safe e-commerce transactions. Plunder wanted to offer the convenience of craigslist along with provide safe spots for users to meet and conduct their business. A pleasant UI and UX were also aspects we chose to focus on.

Plunder allows users from across the country to post items they have and want to sell along with a picture. If users saw an item they were interested in purchasing, they could learn more about the product and Plunder would populate a map with 20 suggested safe e-commerce zones near the city and state associated with the item seller. Users could also contact other users (only if they were logged in) about purchasing their plunders.

While Plunder is no longer in active development, it may be revisited in the future. Plunder would be a great app to develop in a React or Vue.js environment.

Hidden Gem Atlanta was a group endeavor developed with the desire to promote the growth and recognition of regionally unique businesses and locations. HGA is a platform where users can find Atlanta locations that the locals are passionate about. We at HGA feel that wonderful unique venues, small businesses and parks are often overshadowed by the prevalence of large chains. While there are many rating sites that thrive off of user generated content, there aren’t any that focus on strictly regionally unique locations. HGA aims to bridge that gap.

Hidden Gem is somewhere users can go to post their reviews and experiences at various locations unique to the Atlanta area. HGA will then automatically populate the page with an image of the location and map showing the location using external APIs. We aim to use HGA as a means to promote tourism for Atlanta and possibly market it to other cities and states throughout the United States.

While HGA is no longer in the development phase, it is a project that will likely be revisited in the future.

Someone once told Matthew that if he were to consistently do good, then he would be sure to die great. These were words that always stuck with Matthew and gave him a passion and drive to continuously grow both personally and professionally while striving to donate his time to help others along the way.

This strong desire resulted in Matthew starting the development of the DGDG app. This app aims to provide a platform for users to manage their life goals and focus on becoming a better person with each day that passes. The app will allow users to track their yearly, monthly, weekly and daily goals while logging their progress. The app will also have daily check-ins where users can reflect on how they did that day and what they could do better in the future. The daily check-ins will not only focus on personal performance, but will also focus on what the user did that day to help someone else. DGDG will also encourage its users to find new ways to donate their time and help someone else in need.

DGDG is a personal project that is in active development, therefore Matthew is responsible for all aspects of development. The app will be developed in React and will have a React Native version down the road as well.

DIY Hub is a group effort which was developed in order to cater to a very specific user-base. The targeted user-base included individuals who may not have an excess of free time, but enjoy spending that free-time wisely. DIY Hub targets individuals who are adventurous and want to constantly learn how to do new things. DIY Hub also targeted individuals who are passionate about the projects that they take on and want to share what they have learned with other like-minded individuals.

DIY Hub is a place where this user-base can come to share their current DIY Projects with step-by-step guides for others and draw insight from the projects that other users have posted. DIY Hub aims to get right to the point and provide a heightened level of convenience for all of our users. This is why each project is posted with several categories including the amount of time and money than is required to take on a given project. We also increase the convenience of our app by linking each project to an Amazon shopping cart that is automatically populated with all of the required materials for any given project. DIY Hub wants to maximize the results achieved in terms of time spent for all users of DIY Hub. At DIY Hub we also love the opportunity to encourage creativity and growth in our user-base.

DIY Hub is still in the active production phase. While it is a fully functional React App with a dedicated server and database, we aim to make a fully functional React Native App as well. We also plan on developing the social aspect of DIY Hub where users can share their progress and experiences with previously posted DIYs. In the near future we also plan to allow users to ‘clone’ projects and make personal alterations that they like before resubmission.

This is a project that is backed by the passion and drive of a strong development team.
